Meet Patty

“My name is Patty Kopec and I have been a volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Wyoming Valley for the past 9 years.  I love making connections with people, and I get to do just that while delivering them a healthy, nutritious meal.  It seems to mean so much to them when I greet them at the door, and I look forward to seeing and chatting with them each week. Over my 9 years, I have done various routes we serve, from Sugar Notch to Wilkes-Barre and the Back Mountain Area. It doesn’t take much more than 1 hour.
I have proudly been involved with Meals on Wheels of Wyoming Valley on various levels , and I do my volunteering all in memory of my Aunt and Uncle. I feel good knowing I am personally helping the community at large in delivering affordable, healthy meals while making meaningful connections with others.”

Meet Wayne and Diane

“We are Wayne and Diane Long. We have been involved with Meals on Wheels of Wyoming Valley through the Trucksville United Methodist Church for 20 years, who has gathered other volunteer drivers for Meals on Wheels for over 40+ years. Trucksville United Methodist Church, along with other churches, recruited volunteers from their congregations over the years to help deliver meals just 1 day a month. It has since gone by the wayside for a lot of the other churches, so we wanted to appeal to other churches personally to join us at this time in picking a day to help out Meals on Wheels of Wyoming Valley.
We got involved because our family members just always volunteered! They were examples to us as to what or how to give back to our community. We picked up their positions/legacies where they left off. Volunteering was just always part of both of our families, and it has been our pleasure to deliver the route of the Back Mountain and Harvey’s Lake area all these years. But more help is needed.
What keeps us continuing to volunteer with Meals on Wheels is that we are sometimes the only person that the clients, who are receiving the meals, are seeing all day, and sometimes for many days. We wouldn’t want to disappoint them by not showing up to check in on them. They depend on seeing us, and it makes us feel good supplying food to those who can not make it themselves.”

Volunteers keep our Meals on Wheels program in Motion!

We are currently seeking volunteers for these roles:

Prepare Meals

Help in the kitchen by preparing meals and packing for delivery. Volunteers arrive at 7am to pack the daily meals into boxes in preparation for our Delivery specialists (drivers and meal runners) to begin their routes between 9-10am.

Deliver Meals

Pick up meals at a central location and hand deliver them directly to our customers’ homes. Our Delivery Specialists use their own vehicle and are not paid. They typically deliver meals along with a Meal Runner to the clients on their designated route. Delivery Specialists can choose to volunteer for as few or as many days as they would like. Occasionally Delivery Specialists are asked to fill in for another route if that driver is absent. Meals are typically delivered M-F around 10:30am.
